ICT Pedagogy Integration Practicum

Within this module the participants will be exposed to several practical sessions on how to integrate ICT in teaching and learning. The main model to be used here is the SAMR which emphasises 4 aspects of integration (Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition). In the practicums teachers will be first provided with illustrations and real cases of how ICT has been pedagogically applied hence allowing them to get engaged in the process of ICT-integrated training. Under this module open source online and offline tools will be used to demonstrate different concepts in the different subject areas. They will be used to illustrate how certain business process along the value chains can be realised using automation. Some of the notable applications that can be used include

Assessing Learners online

Within this module the participants will be taught how they can undertake different assessments online with the support of ICT. There are several tools that have been developed for creating different types of assessments and some of these will be demonstrated to the participants to show how they can improve assessment.  In this module, the open source software for developing online assessment called Hotpotatos plus the LMS assessment engine will be used for the training.

ICT for Educational Organisation and Management

Within this module participants will be taught on how to better use ICT to organise and manage their work places. Through this module participants will use live cases on how they manage participants, teacher, financial and attendance data among other.

Finding resources for lessons

This module will train teachers to effectively find digital resources to use while teaching, undertaking their own research about the subject area and how they can share these resources to students with ease. The module will be significant on showing the teachers on how to find appropriate resources and where to find them using search engines, libraries among others.


Online Safety issues

In this course unit, the participants will be introduced to the usefulness of security while interacting with ICTs. Within the module, participants will get to know how insecurity while using ICT can be created, avoided, detected, managed, and the implications it can cause. Some of the insecurity that will be looked at within the course include viruses, authentication, plagiarism, health, cyber bullying, cyber stalking among others.

Instructional Technology

During this course unit, the participants will be taught on the pedagogical use of instructional technologies for learning, assessment in the classroom; the available instructional planning models; how to select, create, evaluate, and integrate instructional technologies and resource materials and how to organise and manage instructional activities with appropriate ICT resources in the classroom. Some of the effective models for pedagogical adoption of technology for teaching and learning will be considered including the SAMR model.

Basic ICT Skills

This course will introduce teachers to the basic concepts of Information Communication Technologies, basic systems administration needed for every teacher, basic software application required by every teacher (Word processing, PowerPoint, Excel, PDF and Internet literacy) and other technical skills that are a pre-requisite to teaching using ICT within a classroom. Lastly, the teachers will be introduced to the basic ICT graphics concepts needed by every teacher of the 21st century.


Introduction to ICT in Education

This course will introduce teachers to the educational theories and how they impact on ICT pedagogical Integration. The policy environment for ICT integration in Education will be introduced to the participants. Further still, different methodologies of integration of ICT in education will be introduced and allow participants to reflect on what they intend do and apply the skills learnt.
